Determined Girls are a win away from their first ever Women’s African Champions League finals representation if the Liberian champions can do with a win against USPA of Senegal this Sunday, 21 August at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS).

The entire Determined Girls squad sat out in the stands as they watched rivals and defending champions AS Mande of Mali being held to a goalless draw by USPA at the ATS on Friday, 19 August.

Robert Lartey side can reach the finals of the Women’s African Champions League in Morocco later this year if they edge the bottom club in the final match day.

For the moment, the Liberian champions are in second with a point on the unorthodox table of the West Africa Zone A Qualifiers with AS Mande leading the way on 2 points but have exhausted all their games.

Determined Girls were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw on match day one at the SKD Sports Complex by AS Mande, but can write history if they defeat USPA on Sunday.

The Senegalese league and cup double winners last season are the hurdles between Determined Girls and a place in the finals of the Women’s African CL to be held in Morocco later this year.

Kantie Sayee tapped in from close range to put the hosts deservingly in front on match day one against AS Mande, but Fatoumata Doumbia drew parity for the Malians with a back post right-footed volley in added time to salvage a precious point.

If the Liberian champions win USPA on Sunday, 21 August, they’ll make their first ever appearance at the Women’s African CL and the first club from Liberia to do so.
Liberia champions who won both league and cup double last season will be hugely hoping on their Guinean star player Bountu Sylla to discover her proficiency in front of goal which was crucial last season.

Sylla has already announced herself in the tournament after she won the award for the best player on match day one against AS Mande following her wriggling run that led to Determined Girls taking the lead in the 82nd minute.

Around the field is absolutely free.
