LISCR struck the first psychological blow of the new season following a 4-1 penalty shootout win of league champions Watanga in an entertaining Super Cup at the ATS on Wednesday, 24 August.

In the first period, chances were far and few from each other as the two teams played out to a goalless draw in front of an attendant crowd.

Just at the start of the second half, Watanga took the lead with the aide of a clever little cheeky free kick that caught LISCR rearguards switched off and left back Carlos Williams tapped in on 47 minutes.

LISCR never lie down easily and they crafted a magnificent equaliser thanks to one of three Sierra Loneans who started for the Shipping Boys.

Ishmael Dumbaya announced his arrival in the 74 min when he raced unto a through ball straight down the middle, sprang the Watanga offside trap before volleying home unstoppably to restore parity.

When the two sides couldn’t be separated in regulation following series of half chances at both ends, they would be ushered into 30 minutes of extra time by central referee Stanley Konah, Jr.

Two many tired legs meant penalties were going to loom and coach Sam Chebli of LISCR summoned substitute goalkeeper Juanito Sayeh for Ashley Williams who started in the absence of the experienced Tommy Songo’s who stared from the stands.

That substitution was the difference in the two-hour contest as skipper Farsedu Logan volleyed his spot kick off target after two rounds of penalty.

Fellow teammate Albert Korvah compounded Watanga misery when his shot was kept out by the super sub, Sayeh who himself bravely stepped up and converted the decisive spot kick to win LISCR a first silverware of the season.
